Proverbs 17:1

This verse made me think about camping and how that first cup of coffee in the morning (black, in a tin camping mug) tastes like the best thing ever!  If you know me at all, you know I like cream and sugar in my coffee, black coffee is totally bitter tasting to me.  But there is so much comfort and warmth and satisfaction in a cup of black coffee on a chilly morning.

And I now know why.

That coffee is like the dry crust in this verse.  In order to enjoy it, you need to leave the chaos of the world behind.  Only then will you find the peace you need to experience the joy that is really all around you going unnoticed.

We don’t have to go camping to find that peace and joy.  We just need to find that place of quiet with God.

Better a dry crust eaten in peace than a house filled with feasting—and conflict.
