Romans 10:13 – Ollie, Ollie, in come free!

Romans 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED."

Romans 10:13 for “WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF THE LORD WILL BE SAVED.”

I’m on a kid trend lately 🙂

Yes, I’m still searching for fun adult devotionals but in the meantime, I got to thinking about how I grew up.  The fun and freedom us kids used to have.  Life was so much easier as a child, but of course, we can’t see the truth of that until after we grow up.

I remember there was nothing on earth more fun than a game of hide and seek when it got dark out!  (Okay, so we didn’t really get to play out after dark all that often, BUT dusk counts!)  And I’m not talking about being confined to a small grass yard.  The hide and seek games we had involved a big, old hay barn full of tunnels hidden between the bales of hay!

Between screams of, “Marco! Polo! and Ollie, Ollie in come free!” we made sure no one was left in the dark when it was time to call it a night.  Those were the days!

Then I started thinking…Jesus has been yelling, “Ollie, Ollie, in come free!” since he began His ministry.

He is saying, “Repent!  Come to Me and ask for forgiveness and I will give it to you…it’s free!  Salvation is a gift!  Don’t be left hiding in the dark!  Ollie, Ollie in come free!”

We all are waiting for Someone to find us when we are hiding, all alone, in the dark.  We don’t want to be left there after the game is over…forgotten.

He who has ears to hear, let him hear….  “Ollie, Ollie in come free!”

{For anyone who didn’t grow up shouting, “Ollie, Ollie in come free, or Ollie, Ollie oxen free” it is a phrase that means that it is okay to come out of hiding, you’ll be safe and you won’t be “it” in a game of hide and go seek.}

    Oh, Wow! I really like this one. You hit the nail on the head in that it is a metaphor for Christ’s calling to us. How often have we, as adults, just ignored that call. Look at all our friends out there who are still ignoring the call. When we all go in, there are still those we love, out there, so busy looking to prove we are wrong, that they won’t hear. It is very sad that they won’t listen and answer. All we can do is pray that they will answer soon.
