Jonah 4:9-11

Jonah 4:9-11

Then God said to Jonah, “Do you have good reason to be angry about the plant?” And he said, “I have good reason to be angry, even to death.” 10 Then the Lord said, “You had compassion on the plant for which you did not work and which you did not cause to grow, which came up overnight and perished overnight. 11 Should I not have compassion on Nineveh, the great city in which there are more than 120,000 persons who do not know the difference between their right and left hand, as well as many animals?”

Leave it to God to slap you down with iron-clad logic!

I chose these verses to study because of what is happening overseas with ISIS.  ISIS has effectively taken actions that affect the world’s view of ALL Muslims.  And it hasn’t stopped there.

Because of their actions, atheists are calling for the end of ALL religion…period!  And non-believers and believers too are making comments about how the middle east should be “wiped off the map” in order to take care of the “Muslim problem”.

Just like Jonah, who thought that God would be too forgiving toward the people of Nineveh.

Wait a second!  God being “too forgiving”?  THANK HIM that He is too forgiving, otherwise many of us wouldn’t be looking forward to eternity!

If Jonah had had his own way, the people of Nineveh would have remained in their ignorance and would have been destroyed.  God intervened and His Word woke up the people of Nineveh before it was too late.  Before they were condemned for all eternity.

Jonah was bitter about God’s compassion on the people of Nineveh.  He’d rather save a plant that lived for only a day than save over 120,000 souls in Nineveh.  Talk about messed up priorities!

And THAT is what I am seeing and hearing from non-believer’s AND some who claim to be believers.  Messed up priorities!

ISIS are terrorists.  NO question.  They deal in fear.  Again no question about that.  But people are letting their fear mess up their priorities.

It goes back to the age old example of “rape”.  If I was raped by a white man, do I suddenly hate ALL white men because one hurt me?  (Obviously, substitute whatever race you want, it works for all). The answer is …of course not. That would be ridiculous.

There are over a billion Muslims in the world today and only around 10,000+ belong to ISIS    (  This article was back in Aug. 2014 and states they really aren’t sure how many members ISIS has.  But even double or triple or quadruple the 10k estimate and it’s still a small minority of Muslims).

There is no question that ISIS is doing evil things.  But they are committing atrocities against other Muslims too, not just Christians and non-Muslims. For anyone to say “wipe them (Muslims) off the map” is completely insane!  We’re talking millions of women and children and men who are NOT part of ISIS.

And to hear other Christians join in with this garbage is horrifying!

Jesus came to earth, allowed Himself to be tortured and crucified on a cross so that WE could be forgiven and saved!  Do we say thank You Lord by giving up and writing off an entire nation because some of them make us scared?  NO!

Satan must be just ecstatic right now!  He must really be over-the-top doing his victory dance on this one! It’s bad enough the atrocities being committed by ISIS – that alone is cause for Satan throwing a party – but that isn’t what has Satan doing backflips and handstands.

The hate that is spreading in the hearts and minds of humans is what is giving Satan the ultimate high.  And it isn’t just non-believers, it’s believers too which is just a big old cherry on top of Satan’s sundae.

The worse and worse ISIS becomes, the more people are calling for their complete annihilation and not just theirs – ALL Muslims.  Fear is opening the door to Satan and he is more than happy to waltz right in.

And Satan is growing and breeding.

The focus was on just ISIS.  It has spread to Muslims in general, and now some people are calling for an end to ALL religion. Is this the new “one world order” we’ve heard about?

I do not agree with the beliefs of Muslims.  I would rather they all come to Christ and be saved and have eternal life.  God does not want any to perish!  They are His creations too and with time and the Gospel, God may open their hearts to His love. BUT THAT CAN’T HAPPEN IF WE “WIPE THEM ALL OFF THE MAP”!

If you have had these thoughts yourself or know of others who are having these thoughts, don’t stay quiet.  Get with your Pastor or other believers and get your heart back on God’s path again.  Get back to the Gospels and meet Jesus Christ all over again and REMEMBER

~ Who He was, Who He is, and Who He is to come ~

Replace the hate with love and a heart for the lost.

I’m with Matheus, that is a great line. I also liked the fist line of your post: “Leave it to God to slap you down with iron-clad logic!” Isn’t that the truth! I have more than a few bumps on my head as a result of God having to carry out that very action on me.
